Mirador de Pajara

Hello nostalgic road tripper! I'm your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com. Today we are leaving the rush of the highway behind to recover the pleasure of driving slowly. If you are traveling along the mythical Carretera General del Sur (the TF-28), you have a mandatory stop in the municipality of Güímar. Welcome to the Mirador de Pájara, a humble corner that offers one of the most authentic panoramas of the east coast.

The Güímar Valley at Your Feet from Mirador de Pájara

Located in the neighborhood of the same name, this viewpoint is a classic for those of us who love the "medianías" (the middle zone between the coast and the mountain). From the Mirador de Pájara, you have a privileged view of the entire Güímar Valley. What is impressive here is the contrast: you will see traditional terraced fields, deep ravines, and, down below, hugging the sea, the spectacular Malpaís de Güímar.

The Malpaís is a volcanic nature reserve that can be seen perfectly from up here, looking like a black patch of lava entering the blue of the Atlantic. It is a quiet viewpoint, away from the tourist masses, where the only thing you hear is the wind and the daily life of the village. It is the real Tenerife, the one of neighbors greeting each other and heroic agriculture.

Tips from Your Local Insider

The Agache and Güímar area has a lot of flavor, so take advantage of the visit with these tips:

  • Route for Bikers and Cyclists: The TF-28 road is paradise for two-wheelers due to its endless curves. The Mirador de Pájara is the perfect meeting point to rest and take the obligatory photo with the bike and the valley in the background.
  • Wine and Gastronomy: You are in the land of good white wines. Near the viewpoint, there are several "ventas" and village bars where the food is amazing. Ask for local wine (D.O. Valle de Güímar) and pair it with some grilled cheese ("queso asado").
  • The Golden Hour: Come at sunrise if you want to see the sun come up over the sea in front of you (it's spectacular), or at sunset to see how the shadow of Teide and the ridge begins to cover the valley little by little.

Mirador de Pájara is a window into the island's agricultural and volcanic past. A simple stop that connects you with the essence of southern Tenerife.
