Chimague Viewpoint

hund

Hello nature lover! Your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com here. Today we are traveling along the island's ridge, that magical road (the TF-24) that leads us towards Teide. Many tourists drive right past it looking for the summit, but if you want a moment of absolute peace and fresh air, you have to brake at the Mirador de Chimague. It is the perfect corner to rediscover the hidden face of Tenerife.

The Unique Perspective of Mirador de Chimague

Unlike its neighbors that look north, the Mirador de Chimague orients its view towards the southeast of the island. From here, at high altitude, you dominate the entire Güímar Valley and the coast of Candelaria. It is a spectacle to see how the intense green of the Canary Pine (our king tree, fire-resistant) contrasts with the deep blue of the Atlantic.

But the best part is what lies on the horizon: the island of Gran Canaria. On clear days, it looks so sharp it seems to float on the sea. It is a much quieter viewpoint than the others, where the only noise you will hear is the wind whistling through the pine needles and the occasional blue chaffinch bird.

Tips from Your Local Insider

This viewpoint has its tricks to enjoy it to the fullest, take note:

  • King of Sunrise: While other viewpoints are for sunset, the Mirador de Chimague is for early risers. Watching the sun rise right behind Gran Canaria from here is a spiritual experience. Coffee tastes better with these views!
  • Breathe deep: You are surrounded by dense pine forest. Roll down the window or get out of the car and fill your lungs. The smell of pine and mountain here is pure medicine.
  • Bring a coat: Don't trust the sun. You are at a significant altitude on the Cumbre Dorsal. Up here, a "fisco de frío" (a little bit of cold) is noticeable, especially early in the morning or if there is a breeze.

Stopping at Mirador de Chimague means connecting with the calm of the peaks. A necessary breath of fresh air before continuing your journey towards the volcanic giant.
