Montaña Amarilla Viewpoint

Hello sun and geology lover! I'm your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com, and today we are heading to the deep south, to Costa del Silencio. If you are tired of conventional sandy beaches and are looking for something that looks like it's from another planet, you have to check out the Montaña Amarilla Viewpoint. It is one of the most curious and photogenic natural monuments in Tenerife.

The Geological Magic of Montaña Amarilla Viewpoint

What makes this place unique is not just the view towards the horizon, but what you have under your feet. The Montaña Amarilla Viewpoint is actually an ancient volcanic formation eroded by the sea and wind, creating whimsical, wavy shapes in the ochre and yellow rock. It's like walking on the surface of the moon, but with the Atlantic in the background.

It is a protected area due to its scenic value. The contrast between the yellow rock and the crystal-clear turquoise water is brutal. It is a favorite spot for many locals to disconnect, read a book on the warm rocks, or take a dip in some of the clearest waters on the island.

Tips from Your Local Insider

To get the most out of this Martian corner, here are my local tips:

  • Bring your snorkeling gear: I'm not joking. The seabed here is incredible. If you like snorkeling, you will see plenty of colorful fish among the rocks. The water is like a swimming pool!
  • The Beach Bar is sacred: Right at the foot of the mountain is the Mana Nui Chiringuito (beach bar). Having a drink there at sunset with chill-out music is the perfect plan to end the day.
  • Watch the tide: To swim comfortably, it is best to go at low or mid-tide. If there are strong waves, respect the ocean, as it crashes against the rocks here. And please, bring water shoes or be careful where you step so you don't slip!

The Montaña Amarilla Viewpoint is a wild gem. A place where nature has sculpted a work of art for you to enjoy. Don't forget your camera!
