The Mirador Punta de Teno (Punta de Teno Viewpoint) is the westernmost point of Tenerife, the place where the island ends and only the immensity of the ocean remains. This is not a high-altitude viewpoint, but a coastal one. Located in the Teno Rural Park, in Buenavista del Norte, this enclave gifts you a unique perspective: seeing the Cliffs of Los Gigantes "in profile." From the Mirador Punta de Teno, the 600-meter rock walls drop sheer into the sea, creating an imposing image that makes you feel tiny.
The undisputed protagonist is the Teno Lighthouse, painted in red and white stripes, watching over the crystal-clear waters. The volcanic landscape here is rugged, full of cacti and black rocks, contrasting with a sea that is usually calm in the small bay, perfect for a refreshing swim at the "end of the world."
Tips from Your Local Insider
Reaching paradise has its rules, and here they are strict. Pay attention:
- Restricted Road: Very important! Private car access to the Punta de Teno road is usually prohibited during the day (normally from 10:00 to 19:00, but check schedules). If you go during those hours, you will be fined. The solution is to leave your car in Buenavista and take Bus (Guagua) 369. The bus ride along the cliffs is an adventure in itself!
- The Best Sunset on the Island: I'm not exaggerating. Watching the sun go down behind La Gomera with the lighthouse turning on is a religious experience. If you go in summer, stay late (when the road opens) or take the last bus down.
- Crystal Clear Water: Bring your swimsuit and snorkel gear. The small cove and the pier have some of the cleanest and fish-filled waters in Tenerife.
