Palomas Viewpoint
After so much cold at the summit, today we are going down to the warmth of the south, specifically to Costa Adeje. But I'm not taking you to the hustle and bustle of the tourist traps, but to a renovated and charming corner in La Caleta: the Mirador de la Paloma (or Mirador de las Palomas). If you are looking for the perfect sunset, you have just found it.
A Balcony to the Atlantic at Mirador de la Paloma
Strategically located between La Enramada Beach and the fishing village of La Caleta, this viewpoint is a modern and accessible platform that looks straight at the island of La Gomera. From the Mirador de la Paloma, the show is twofold: on one hand, you have the sun sinking into the ocean, dyeing the sky orange and violet; on the other, you have the sky full of colors thanks to the paragliders.
This area is the official "airport" for paragliders jumping from Taucho or Ifonche. Watching them glide silently over your head to land with millimeter precision on the black sand of La Enramada is hypnotic. It is a quiet place, with benches and shaded areas, perfect for disconnecting with the sound of the sea and the gentle southern breeze.
Tips from Your Local Insider
La Caleta is one of my favorite areas to treat myself, and here is how to do it:
- The Golden Hour: Don't go at midday; the sun hits hard and the light is harsh. The magic moment at Mirador de la Paloma is 30 minutes before sunset. Bring your camera charged.
- Dinner with Sea Flavor: You are a stone's throw from La Caleta, famous for having some of the best fish and seafood restaurants on the island. After sunset, go down to the village and order a "vieja sancochada" (boiled parrotfish) or some shrimp.
- Coastal Walk: This viewpoint connects with a beautiful seaside promenade. If you like walking, you can go along the coast from here to the El Duque area, enjoying the views of the cliffs and the turquoise water.
Mirador de la Paloma is the friendly and relaxed face of southern Tenerife. A place to toast to the holidays while the sun says goodbye until tomorrow.
