Los 500 Escalones Viewpoint

If you like viewpoints that you have to "earn" with the sweat of your brow, this is your place. In the municipality of Tacoronte, hidden at the end of a quiet residential area, lies the curious Mirador de los 500 Escalones (500 Steps Viewpoint). Get ready, because here the views are heart-stopping... and so is the climb back up!

An Open-Air Gym at the 500 Steps Viewpoint

More than a simple balcony, this place is a physical experience. As its name promises, it is a long concrete staircase that descends in a zigzag down the cliff of the Acentejo Coast. As you go down the Mirador de los 500 Escalones, the perspective changes: you go from seeing the sea from above to feeling suspended over it. The wild vegetation surrounds you and the sound of the waves becomes increasingly powerful.

The views are spectacular: you have a privileged panorama of the north coast, with the wild La Garañona beach on one side and the silhouette of Teide watching in the background. It is a perfect place to see how the force of the Atlantic hits the base of the island, far from the usual tourist routes.

Tips from Your Local Insider

This is not a viewpoint to visit in a rush (or lazily). Here are my recommendations to survive the challenge:

  • Mandatory "Leg Day": Remember the golden rule: everything you go down, you must then climb up. Take it easy. If you are not in shape, go down only halfway; the views are already worth it and you save yourself from exhaustion on the way up.
  • Neighborly Respect: The access is inside the Urbanización Jardín del Sol. It is a very quiet residential area. Park well without blocking garages and keep the noise down. The neighbors will thank you.
  • The Magic Hour: Sunset here is brutal. The sun sets right in front of the north coast, dyeing the water silver. Just make sure to calculate the time well so you don't climb the stairs in total darkness.

The 500 Steps Viewpoint is the perfect combination of cardio and landscape. A secret corner where your legs will burn, but your eyes will rejoice.
