Mirador de Vilaflor
Hello height lover! Your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com here. If you are on your way to Teide from the south, you must make a mandatory pause where the air becomes purer and thinner. You are about to enter the Mirador de Vilaflor, a stone balcony that watches over the highest municipality in all of Spain. Here, life is seen from a different perspective.
High Altitude Views from Mirador de Vilaflor
Located on the TF-21 road, just above the historic town center, this viewpoint offers you a beautiful panorama of Vilaflor de Chasna. From the Mirador de Vilaflor, you will see the rooftops of traditional houses, the church tower, and, surrounding it all, the extensive vineyards and potato fields that defy the altitude. It is a rural landscape, quiet and full of history.
But if you look up, the show continues. You are surrounded by the Corona Forestal, an immense Canary Pine forest that covers the back of Teide. And looking down, the ravine descends until it merges with the south coast and the ocean. It is the perfect place to take a deep breath and smell the firewood and pine before continuing up towards the lunar landscape.
Tips from Your Local Insider
Vilaflor is a village with a lot of identity, and here is how to enjoy it:
- The Nearby Giant: Just a few minutes from the viewpoint is the famous "Pino Gordo" (Fat Pine). It is a monumental tree with a trunk so wide that it takes several people to hug it. Don't leave without the photo!
- Sweet Temptation: Vilaflor is famous for its almonds. After the views, go down to the village and look for a pastry shop to try the "almendrados" (almond cookies) or "tortas de Chasna." They are the perfect fuel for hikers.
- Wardrobe Change: You are at 1,500 meters altitude. Here the cold is real, even in summer at night. If you come from the beach in a tank top, you will regret it. Keep your jacket handy!
Mirador de Vilaflor is the gateway to the high mountains. A corner where agricultural tradition and wild nature go hand in hand.
