Mirador de la Corona
Hello adventurer! I'm your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com. Today we are heading to the heights of the north, specifically to Los Realejos, the most festive municipality in Spain. If you have ever looked up at the sky and seen those "colored birds" (paragliders) floating over the sea, know that they start here. Welcome to the La Corona Viewpoint (Mirador de la Corona), the balcony where dreams take off.
Adrenaline and Views at La Corona Viewpoint
Located in the neighborhood of Icod el Alto, this viewpoint is world-famous for being one of the best takeoff zones for paragliding. Even if you don't dare to jump, watching the athletes run towards the void and soar into flight at the La Corona Viewpoint is a hypnotic spectacle.
But the views are not far behind. You are about 750 meters above sea level. The entire Orotava Valley stretches out at your feet like a green carpet, and in the background, Puerto de la Cruz and the immensity of the Atlantic. The feeling of freedom up here is total. It is the perfect place to breathe fresh air and disconnect from the noise of the city.
Tips from Your Local Insider
To get the most out of this visit to the heights, here are my recommendations:
- The Air Show: If you want to see the paragliders in action, come on a day with good weather and gentle wind, generally in the morning or at midday. It is amazing to see them take off in a "flock."
- Gastronomic Route: You are in Icod el Alto, the land of good "papa bonita" (local potatoes). After the viewpoint, look for a nearby "guachinche" or restaurant. Here the food is homemade, abundant, and cheap. Order "carne fiesta" and potatoes!
- Bundle up!: Don't be fooled by the sun. Up here the wind hits and the breeze is chilly. A windbreaker jacket is never too much in the north.
The La Corona Viewpoint offers you a different perspective: that of the birds. Whether to jump or to watch, it is a mandatory stop on your route through the north.
