Mirador de Humboldt

Hello curious traveler! I'm your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com. If you like mixing history with breathtaking landscapes, this is your spot. History books say that when the famous naturalist Alexander von Humboldt arrived here in 1799, he knelt down, overwhelmed by such beauty. Today, you can feel that same emotion at the Mirador de Humboldt (Humboldt Viewpoint). It is, without a doubt, the most elegant window to the north of Tenerife.

The Historic Postcard of Mirador de Humboldt

Located on the Cuesta de la Villa, right at the entrance to the Orotava Valley, this viewpoint offers a panorama that looks like an oil painting. From the Mirador de Humboldt, your eyes will sweep across miles of green banana plantations, the historic town of La Orotava, the buildings of Puerto de la Cruz, and, dominating it all, the immense Teide embracing the valley.

It is a view that has changed little over centuries, except for the houses. The combination of the green vegetation, the volcanic black of the distant beaches, and the blue sky creates a perfect composition. Plus, it is a very comfortable viewpoint, with modern architecture that frames the landscape so your photo looks like it belongs in a magazine.

Tips from Your Local Insider

To enjoy this historic corner like a true local ("chicharrero"), write down my suggestions:

  • Say hi to Alexander: Don't leave without looking for the statue of Humboldt at the viewpoint. It's a classic to take a photo with him "looking" towards Teide. He was the island's first influencer!
  • Coffee with a view: The facility has a cafeteria and glass-enclosed terrace (although opening hours or management sometimes change, it is usually available). Having a "barraquito" there, suspended over the valley, is an affordable luxury.
  • Strategic stop: If you are driving on the northern highway (TF-5) towards Puerto de la Cruz or La Orotava, the Mirador de Humboldt is the perfect stop to stretch your legs. Access is super easy and direct from the main road.

Visiting Mirador de Humboldt isn't just about seeing a pretty landscape; it's about understanding what made the first travelers who stepped onto our island fall in love. Come and kneel before the Valley yourself!
