Cherfe Viewpoint
Hello road tripper! Your "Local Insider" from Canaguia.com here. Hold on tight, because today we are climbing up to one of the most spectacular and windy mountain passes on the island. If you are planning the famous route towards the village of Masca, you have a mandatory technical stop at the summit: the Mirador de Cherfe. It is the exact point where Tenerife splits into two brutal landscapes.
The 360º Panorama of Mirador de Cherfe
Located on the TF-436 road, right on the ridge separating the Santiago del Teide Valley from the Masca gorge, this place will leave you speechless. The magic of Mirador de Cherfe is that it offers a double view. If you look to the east, you will see the majestic Mount Teide and Pico Viejo dominating the Santiago valley, with its vineyards and lava flows.
But if you turn around to the west, the ground seems to disappear. Before you opens the vertiginous Masca Gorge, winding down towards the sea, with the islands of La Gomera and La Palma floating on the horizon. It is a place of wild contrasts, where ancient volcanic rock meets high mountain vegetation.
Tips from Your Local Insider
Getting here is an adventure through the winding roads, so take note of these tips to enjoy it stress-free:
- The wind rules: I'm not joking, up here the wind usually blows very hard. Be careful when opening the car door and hold on tight to your hat or phone.
- The Magic Hour: Sunset from Mirador de Cherfe is like a movie scene. Watching the sun hide behind the silhouette of La Gomera while Teide turns pink behind you is something you won't forget.
- Parking and Snacks: The parking space is small. You will often find a van (Food Truck) selling coffee, cactus juice, and local sweets. A good place to catch your breath before continuing the curves towards Masca.
Mirador de Cherfe is the visual frontier of western Tenerife. A brief, intense, and absolutely photogenic stop that connects you with the brute force of the island.
