TFN or TFS: which Tenerife airport to choose

Tenerife airport TFN or TFS? Find out which one suits you based on where you stay, transfer time and the direct bus links to each part of the island.
Tenerife has two airports, not one — and landing at the wrong one can easily cost you an extra hour on a bus. Choosing between Tenerife airport TFN or TFS really comes down to one thing: where you're sleeping.
TFN: the northern airport
TFN (Tenerife North) sits right next to Santa Cruz and La Laguna, so it's your best bet if you're staying in the north or want to explore the island's greener half. Anaga, Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava are all within easy reach of the terminal. And don't be surprised if the sky looks hazy after landing — a calima might be rolling in.
TFS: the southern airport
TFS (Tenerife South, Reina Sofía) handles most holiday flights and is a stone's throw from the big southern resorts like Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. If you're here for sun and beach, this is your airport, no question. Picking the right Tenerife airport — TFN or TFS — for your base saves you a solid chunk of transfer time.
Getting around from either airport
Both airports have direct buses to the island's main towns, so you're not stuck paying for a taxi. Check the timetables on the official TITSA website and plan your arrival in peace. And if your plan after landing is to lace up your boots, check the official Tenerife trails network.
How not to mix them up
Check the code on your ticket: TFN is the north and TFS is the south. Some airlines only show the code on your booking, and mixing them up could send you to the other end of the island. Better to double-check before you leave home.
